AVONDALE — The Avondale neighborhood has become Birmingham’s fourth entertainment district following the city council’s vote on Tuesday to name the east Birmingham neighborhood as such.
The vote was unanimous in favor of allowing the neighborhood to become an entertainment district. Avondale joins Uptown, Pepper Place and Five Points South as the only four locations within Birmingham that allows alcohol to be consumed off the premise of an establishment that has a liquor license and within the boundaries of the district.
Birmingham is allowed to have five entertainment districts.
The move to name Avondale as an entertainment district will be a boon for the neighborhood’s night life. Patrons now have the ability to hop into a brewery, pick up a drink and meander to a nearby restaurant to grab some food. The inter-connectivity behind the entertainment district idea has proven to be successful at luring additional businesses and increasing the business of existing establishments.
