PINSON — Multiple agencies responded to a church in the White Oaks community of east Jefferson County on Saturday, July 18, 2020.
The St. John Community Church, on Old Dixiana Road, was heavily damaged in the fire.
Pinson Mayor Hoyt Sanders responded to the scene to bring hydration supplies to at least four agencies responding. Sanders said the cause of the fire is unknown.
Palmerdale Fire, Morris Fire, Center Point Fire District and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene Saturday afternoon. At 5 p.m., crews were still working to put out flames.
One person who said he is a former member of the church said it hadn’t been in operation in over a year.
