SPRINGVILLE — A 74-year-old inmate who was serving time at the St. Clair Correctional Facility in Springville died on Saturday, Aug. 1, six days after testing positive for COVID-19.
The Alabama Department of Corrections announced the death on Monday, Aug. 3.
James Cowan was serving a 25-year sentence for murder out of Montgomery County when he was transferred to a local hospital for additional care related to multiple underlying medical conditions. He was tested for coronavirus upon his admission, and returned a positive result two days later.
According to a release from the Alabama Department of Corrections, Cowan remained under the care of the local hospital until his passing.
