SPRINGVILLE — Per its usual during this pandemic, the Springville City Council conducted its business in a virtual manor on Monday, Aug. 3. Using Microsoft Teams, the council touched on a few topics, including poll workers and a FEMA grant.
On Monday night, an approval was made in favor of capital expenditures for a COVID-19 FEMA grant. The grant will include several items requested by different city department heads. In total, the grant includes $78,284 worth of equipment. Springville would be responsible for matching $19,571 of that.
Below is a department-by-department breakdown of the approved COVID-19 capital expenses.
- Public works ($10,000): Construction of wall between building inspector and public works clerks, two laptop computers and one desktop computer.
- Fire department ($20,500): Mechanical CPR device for Station 2, and three video laryngoscopes.
- Library ($7,000): Upgrade of rear doors on both buildings with addition of book drop in each door.
- Parks & Recreation ($24,324): Addition of glass door between lobby and meeting/break area in park and recreation building, purchase of three laptop computers, sanitizing cabinet for sports equipment, installation of glass in director’s office door.
- “Citywide” ($8,100): Six portable sanitizers for city hall, library, public works, senior center, police department and fire department.
- “Citywide” ($8,360): Installation of HVAC UV disinfection systems in all city buildings and 22 HVAC units at $380 per unit.
The Springville council also approved a motion to reject a bid for the installation of a new sewer force main. The rejected bid came from Southern Directional Boring for $667,000.
Springville approved a motion to appoint poll workers for the upcoming municipal elections.
The Springville City Council will meet next on Aug. 17.
