BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department said the shooting death of a 21-year-old woman on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020, has been ruled justifiable
Keanna Kelley, 21, of Gadsden, was shot during a domestic dispute, according to police.
The shooting happened at 1131 Kawanda Lane, in a subdivision that is off of Center Point Parkway. At around 9:11 p.m. officers were called to the scene. Upon arrival, the officers discovered the victim lying on the ground at the steps of the residence. She was unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound, and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
“Investigators presented the information gathered on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office for review.,” Sgt. Rodarius Mauldin said. “Following the assessment of the information, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office ruled the actions justifiable.”
The preliminary investigation suggests Kelley attempted to force her way into the residence and a physical altercation ensued prior to the shooting.
No charges will be filed.
