TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Police Department arrested a man with several warrants, after a chase on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2020.
An officer patrolling Gadsden Highway noticed a black 2004 Honda Civic with no tail lights, around 11:23 p.m. When the officer attempted to make a traffic stop, the officer said the driver refused to stop.
According to a police report, the driver led the officer into the Hobby Lobby parking lot where he drove around the parking lot, even driving by the entrance of the store, at a high rate of speed. The officer said he tried to block the vehicle from leaving through the exit, but the driver went around him, over a curb and through bushes to exit. According to the police report, the airbag on the vehicle deployed and the driver kept going.
The driver then ran a red light to get back onto Gadsden Highway and headed towards the interstate, according to the officer. The chase continued on Gadsden Highway into Irondale where the driver got out of the vehicle and continued to run from the officer. The man was taken into custody behind a house.
No one was hurt.
The suspect was identified as Thomas Jeffrey King, 35, of Birmingham. King was arrested on a charge of fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and he was issued several traffic citations. He also had warrants out of Shelby County, Dora and Brighton. The warrant out of Shelby County was for felony probation violation and the other two were for misdemeanor charges.
