ASHVILLE — Deputies with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office were investigating a deadly shooting when they encountered a female with a gun.
The incident happened on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020, around 5:30 p.m. Deputies responded to a shooting incident in the 1500 block of Baker Road. While on the scene, a male victim was found dead.
While investigating, deputies encountered the female carrying a handgun, according to Sheriff Billy Murray.
“After numerous requests to drop the handgun was ignored, the female then pointed a handgun at deputies and was shot,” Murray said in a statement.
The female was taken to UAB Hospital by Lifesaver. The sheriff’s office did not reveal the age of those involved.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office was called in to investigate through a mutual-aid agreement. The Jacksonville State University Center for Applied Forensics also responded to process the scene.
