MONTGOMERY — The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) said a man serving life sentences for crimes in Jefferson and St. Clair Counties has died in prison.
William Edward King, 65, had end-stage pre-existing medical conditions and was already in the Kilby Correctional Facility infirmary when he was taken to the hospital on June 1. He tested positive for coronavirus at the hospital. According to the ADOC, King’s condition improved and he was released from the hospital. Eventually, his condition worsened and he was readmitted to the hospital on July 26. He was brought back to Kilby for hospice care on Aug. 11, and he died later that day.
King was serving consecutive life-sentences for rape out of Jefferson County and for kidnapping out of St. Clair County, a 15-year sentence for rape and burglary out of Jefferson County, and a one-year sentence for burglary out of Jefferson County.
