TRUSSVILLE — Hewitt-Trussville’s Week 1 football opponent has decided not to make the trip to Hewitt-Trussville Stadium on Aug. 28.
According to reports, Class 6A Saraland has canceled the contest, due to the challenges created by COVID-19. For head coach Jeff Kelly and the Spartans, the drive to Trussville is 264 miles up I-65.
Saraland will open its 2020 season at home against Theodore on Aug. 21, while Hewitt-Trussville travels to Pinson Valley. As it stands now, the Huskies’ second contest is scheduled for Sept. 4 at Spain Park.
According to Huskies’ head coach Josh Floyd, the school will attempt to fill the Week 1 vacancy.
