OXFORD — The Hewitt-Trussville girls cross country team opened up the 2020 season last Saturday with a first-place finish at Choccolocco Park in Oxford. The Huskies held off second-place Northridge with a strong team effort that includes six runners in the 5,000-meter top 25.
Junior Maci Mills finished eighth overall with a time of 20:17.19 at the Waffle House/Yellow Jacket Invitational. Also placing among the top 25 girls were:
- Amelia Brady — 10th
- Kylee Sisk — 14th
- Kinley Harris — 20th
- Avery Cahoon — 23rd
- Sophia Knox — 24th
The Hewitt-Trussville boys also ran on Saturday, securing a third-place finish behind No. 1 Oak Mountain and No. 2 Hoover.
Senior Nathan Knox led all Husky runners with a time of 16:45.07 to take fourth-place in the individual standings. Mitchell Phillips finished eighth and Sam Lovin placed 22nd to aid Hewitt-Trussville’s efforts.
The Huskies will be back in action on Sept. 12 as they travel to Moulton for the Chickasaw Trails Run.
