MORRIS — A 52-year-old man has died after colliding with a golf cart on Wednesday, according to a report from the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
Eric Vann Tyree sustained injuries when he was struck by his neighbor’s golf cart on his property at 7600 block of Self Lane in Morris. The incident occurred at 4:36 p.m. on Wednesday. Tyree was pronounced dead on Thursday at UAB Hospital.
“The decedent sustained injuries when he was accidentally struck in his yard by a neighbor’s golf cart,” said Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates in a press release. “After impact the golf cart overturned, trapping the decedent underneath. The circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.”
According to witnesses, Tyree was doing yard work when his 72-year-old neighbor drove over in his golf cart to talk. When the driver went to leave, he didn’t realize the cart was in reverse and accidentally backed over the victim. The golf cart turned over during the accident, pinning the victim to the ground.
