PELHAM — The Pelham Fire Department received a call of drowning at Oak Mountain State Park at about 6 p.m. on Monday and responded to the scene at the beach area in the park.
Divers were able to recover a person at about 7:30 p.m. who was then transported to Shelby Baptist Medical Center, according to Carol Robinson. Daniyah Dawson, 15, of Birmingham was identified as the victim by Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans on Tuesday.
WBRC reported that Kelly Ezell, Alabama State Parks Central District Superintendent said in a written statement, “We are very sad to report that a 15-year-old drowned while swimming with her family this afternoon at approximately 5:30 p.m. at the Oak Mountain State Park beach area.”
