TUSCALOOSA — Hewitt-Trussville running back Armoni Goodwin looks stronger than ever this season. The senior Auburn commit has recovered from an injury that forced him out of the Huskies’ huddle for most of 2019, which has proven quite problematic for opposing defenses.
In three games, Goodwin has averaged 11 yards per carry on his way to eight touchdowns and a 4-0 Hewitt-Trussville record. The second-ranked Huskies accepted a forfeit victory over Saraland on Aug. 28.
The explosive back is the third recipient of Tribune Player of the Week honors following a record-breaking night in Tuscaloosa last Friday. Goodwin became the school’s all-time leader in career rushing touchdowns with 31 during a 50-18 region win over Tuscaloosa County.
Goodwin finished the night with 215 yards rushing and three scores to improve his career rushing touchdown total to 33. The 5-foot-8 senior has easily eclipsed 100 yards rushing in all three outings this year, placing him at 521 yards on 47 attempts.
He hopes to keep that streak alive this Friday when No. 1-ranked Thompson visits for a contest to be broadcast live on ESPNU. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
