BIRMINGHAM — An investigation into an early morning shooting in Eastlake is underway after Birmingham police found a man dead from a gunshot wound lying near the street, according to Sgt. Rodarius Mauldin.
“At approximately 2:05 a.m., the Birmingham Police Department’s 911 Communication Division received a Shot Spotter call of one round fired in the 300 block of 72nd Street North,” Mauldin said. “Officers from East Precinct responded to the scene and discovered the victim unresponsive lying on the curb near the roadway. The victim suffered from an apparent gunshot wound.”
Birmingham Fire and rescue reported to the scene where the victim was pronounced deceased.
Mauldin said detectives have limited information in this homicide investigation. There are no suspects in custody. Detectives have not established a motive. Updates will be provided as additional information comes available.
