TUSCALOOSA — On Monday, Alabama released its depth chart for this Saturday’s season-opening game at Missouri.
Among the Crimson Tide starters on defense are former Clay-Chalkville defensive lineman DJ Dale and former Hewitt-Trussville defensive back Malachi Moore. The two local products will attempt to get Alabama back among the top defenses in college football.
The Crimson Tide allowed 18.6 points per game last season, which ranked 13th nationally, one spot back from a 12th-place finish in 2018.
Dale, a sophomore coming off an injury-plagued 2019 season, is listed as a nose guard on this year’s depth chart. The 2019 Clay-Chalkville graduate totaled 17 stops in eight games played as a freshman in Tuscaloosa. He recorded three tackles for loss, including one sack and recovered a fumble.
Moore, a true freshman out of Hewitt-Trussville, is listed as Nick Saban’s starter at STAR—an extra defensive back utilized in the nickel package. The 2019 Hewitt-Trussville Player of the Year recorded 83 tackles, four interceptions and eight passes defended for the Huskies.
Moore finished his high school career by participating in the 2020 All-American Bowl alongside 99 of the nation’s top prospects. Moore, Dale and Co. will open up the 2020 college football season at Missouri this Saturday night.
ESPN will broadcast the action starting at 6 p.m.
