BIRMINGHAM — Birmingham Police are investigating the death of a woman they believe was stabbed to death by her brother.
The incident happened on Monday, Sept. 21, 2020, at a home at 1633 Brookfield Lane. Officers responded to the scene around 8:43 a.m. after the victim’s daughter alerted police.
Garland Perry was found inside the home, severely wounded. She died on the scene, according to police.
“The preliminary investigation indicates the brother of the victim stabbed her multiple times,” Sgt. Rodarius Mauldin said in a press release. “The suspect left the residence on foot and was found hiding underneath a large cactus bush nearby.”
The suspect was identified as Joshua Underwood, 88, of Birmingham. He was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment and evaluation. Police said he will be taken to jail after he is released from the hospital. He is charged with murder and will be given at $60,000 bond.
