TRUSSVILLE — A section of Floyd Bradford Road that has been closed for culvert repairs, will reopen on Friday, Oct. 2, according to Jefferson County Commissioner Joe Knight.
Knight is asking drivers to use caution because the bridge lanes will be narrow until all of the work in the area is complete.
“I know this has been frustrating and inconvenient for everyone and I apologize on behalf of the county,” Knight said. “This bridge project was bid out like all of our bridge replacements. The initial plan was to build the new bridge and road while using the old road until the new section was complete. The failure of the old road complicated matters significantly.”
The culverts under the roadway allow the waters of Stinking Creek to flow into the Cahaba River. Knight said the county was already planning to construct a new section of roadway that would straighten the road and move the bridge further downstream when the culverts failed in February.
