MONTGOMERY — During a Wednesday-morning press conference, Gov. Kay Ivey announced an extension to the statewide mask mandate as part of anew Safer At Home Order that goes until Nov. 8, days after the General Election.
Ivey says this is intentional to provide a safe environment for the election.
“I want everyone to (vote) and to be able to do it safely,” said Ivey.
The new order remains largely the same, as the state continues its battle with COVID-19. It does, however, ease restrictions on hospitals and nursing homes by allowing patients to be visited by one person at a time, effective Oct. 2.
The mask order requires people to wear face coverings when within six feet of people from another household. Children 6 and under are not required to wear a face covering, along with people with a medical condition that prevents them from wearing a mask.
