BIRMINGHAM — The National Weather Service in Birmingham is forecasting an impact from Tropical Storm Delta in the coming days.
The storm is moving from Jamaica into the Gulf at around 9 mph. The motion is expected to continue over the next 24 hours and the center of the storm is expected to shift to a northwestward motion on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Maximum sustained winds have been recorded at 40 mph with higher wind gusts.
The storm is expected to gain to hurricane-strength as it moves near or over western Cuba, mid-week.
Impact in the Gulf is expected to take place towards the end of the week. Rain chances will increase in Alabama on Friday and throughout the weekend.
