TRUSSVILLE — Hewitt-Trussville got back in the win column on Monday night at Bryant Bank Arena.
Behind a strong outing from junior outside hitter Gabrielle Dion, the Huskies took three straight sets from Pinson Valley, 25-21, 25-15, 25-18. Dion was effective at the net, knocking down 10 kills to go with six digs for the home team.
Hewitt-Trussville started slow in the opening set, as the Tribe jumped out front 12-8. However, Dion later evened things up at 13-all with her first kill of the night and the Huskies rolled on to a 25-21 win.
It was sophomore middle hitter Marley Carmichael that set the tone in set No. 2, sending home three quick kills to put Hewitt-Trussville out front 6-1. She later connected with her fourth kill to stretch the lead to 14-6, and found some open floor on the left side to punctuate a decisive 25-15 victory.
Carmichael, listed at 5-foot-8 on the Huskies’ roster, finished her night with seven kills. Chrischandria James added six of her own.
Hewitt-Trussville fought back from a 4-1 deficit in the final set, eventually closing things out at 25-18. Liberos Haley Wilkins and Zoe Walker led the Huskies with 15 and 12 digs, respectively.
Sophomore Molly Kate Green was active Monday night with 33 assists, 10 digs and four aces to go with four kills and 11 digs from Andy Owens.
Head coach Jackie Cox will take her girls on the road Tuesday night in area play against Gadsden City — a team they handled 3-0 at home on Sept. 15.
