PINSON — A man taken into custody after a shooting in Pinson on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020, has been identified.
Charles Benjamin Cofield, 49, is charged with three counts of attempted murder after Jefferson County deputies said he shot at them.
The incident happened at 11 a.m. in the 8200 block of West Hill Road. Deputies responding to a call of a man firing a weapon were met with gunfire when they arrived on the scene.
“When the deputies arrived on the scene a male subject began to shoot at them from inside a house,” Capt. David Agee said in a press release. “The deputies took cover and called for assistance. Entry was made into the house by the Jefferson County SWAT team and they were able to take the shooter into custody without injury.”
Cofield was transported to a local hospital for a mental evaluation. No one was hurt.
Upon his release from the hospital, Cofield was taken to the Jefferson County Jail on bonds totaling $450,000.
