Hewitt-Trussville climbs one spot in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 7A football rankings.
The Huskies (8-2) have been a top-4 team throughout the season, and took a step up to No. 3 this week following a 51-21 home victory over a 6-3 Oak Mountain team last Friday night. Josh Floyd’s team will take a bye this week, preparing for a first-round playoff trip to No. 10 James Clemens.
Class 6A No. 3 Pinson Valley will also rest this week, as the Tribe (7-2) accepts a forfeit win over Mortimer Jordan. The Region 6 champions recently secured their first league title since 2018 when they marched on to their second straight state championship.
Pinson Valley will host the 4-seed coming out of Region 7 — Arab (4-5) — in the first round of the state playoffs.
Clay-Chalkville checks in at No. 7 in this week’s ASWA poll. The Cougars improved to 8-1 last Friday with a non-region win over Huffman, and will close out the regular season this Friday at Class 7A Oak Mountain.
Clay-Chalkville will host Southside-Gadsden (6-3) in its postseason opener on Nov. 6.
