CENTER POINT — The teen struck by a car on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020, on Center Point Parkway, has been identified by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Jason Jamine Scroggins, 17, of Center Point died on Oct. 27, according to Coroner Bill Yates.
The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Center Point Parkway and 13th Avenue NE.
Sheriff’s deputies said the driver of the vehicle was an off-duty Birmingham Police officer in his personal vehicle.
“An off-duty Birmingham Police Officer was traveling home on Center Point Parkway in his personal vehicle, when a 17-year-old pedestrian, wearing dark-colored clothing, ran in front of the officer’s car,” Sgt. Joni Money said.
The officer stayed on the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The 17-year-old pedestrian was taken to Children’s of Alabama with serious injuries and died five days later.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
