BIRMINGHAM – A Mountain Brook man died on Thursday at UAB Hospital, one week after being injured in a single-vehicle accident.
According to a report from the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, 79-year-old Harold Lavon Nichols sustained injuries on Oct. 22 when his SUV veered off the road and hit a utility pole. Nichols was the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, which was traveling eastbound on Georgia Road in Birmingham at the time of the accident.
He was transported to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 12:08 p.m.
The Birmingham Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
