VESTAVIA HILLS — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified a person killed in a fiery crash late Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020.
The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. in the 100 block of U.S. Highway 431, at Valley View Road.
Coroner Bill Yates said Mitchell Thomas Phillips, 60, of Homewood, was the driver of an SUV traveling southbound on 31. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a concrete and brick pillar. The vehicle caught fire and Phillips was pronounced dead on the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the wreck are being investigated by the Vestavia Hills Police Department.
