TUSCALOOSA – A man is being questioned by Tuscaloosa police after he allegedly chased a girl from her bus stop on James I. Harrison Jr. Parkway on Tuesday morning.
According to reports, the girl’s mother called police at 7:11 a.m. after seeing a man believed to be in his 20s chasing her daughter from a bus stop near the Forrester Gardens Apartments. Officers responded and began a search that continued until 8:33 a.m. when a suspect was discovered in the back yard of a residence in the 3100 block of 11th Avenue East.
That suspect was taken into custody and is being questioned. Charges are pending.
“The first officers who responded called for backup after hearing possible gunfire,” a release from the TPD stated. “Multiple officers from TPD, with assistance from Alabama State Troopers, Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Northport and the University of Alabama Police departments responded to the area.”
Officers say the girl was not injured. Investigators are working to determine whether the responding officers heard gunfire, firecrackers or something else.
