From The Tribune staff reports
Longtime “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek has died at the age of 80.
The TV icon had been battling pancreatic cancer since announcing the news back in March 2019. He immediately started chemo after the diagnosis, but made no plans to retire and continued hosting his game show for more than a year.
Trebek began hosting “Jeopardy!” in 1984.
The official “Jeopardy!” Twitter account confirmed the sad news on Sunday: “Jeopardy! is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends. Thank you, Alex.”
According to reports, Trebek has won five daytime Emmy Awards and was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2011.
