PELL CITY — Amid a pandemic and the challenges that come along with quarantine guidelines, Pell City High School was able to shine a bright light on one teacher.
April Carter, a math teacher, was named the 2021 Teacher of the Year.
Carter, from Randolph County, has made great strides in her 19 years as an educator. After graduating from Jacksonville State University, Carter taught at Ohatchee High School for three years. She went onto teach for one year in Crawford County, Georgia, then back to her hometown of Wedowee, Alabama, to teach at her alma mater, Randolph County High School. After eight years, Carter moved to Pell City High School, where she now heads up the math department.
Carter teaches honors geometry and some geometry classes for 9th and 10th grade, with the addition of some 11th grade.
“She is so deserving of this award,” Renee Santiago posted on Facebook about Carter. “Mrs. Carter genuinely cares for her students and it definitely shows through in her teaching. Thank you Mrs. Carter for being an amazing teacher even during all the craziness this year! My two definitely love you!”
Carter said she was surprised and is honored to hold the title for the next year.
