DANVILLE — Two local schools will be among the more than 2,000 competitors competing in six divisions on Saturday at the 65th Alabama High School Athletic Association State Cross Country Championships at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park & Museum course near Moulton.
In Class 7A, the Hewitt-Trussville boys and girls will run for the team state championships while both Springville squads vie for the Class 6A titles. Additional runners also qualified for individual state championships from Center Point, Pinson Valley and Leeds.
The Green Wave has three runners listed in the Class 5A race, including eighth-graders Selah Larson and Marley Miller and sophomore Seth Pardue. Also competing in 5A will be Rodricus Brown and Keymond Steele, of Center Point High School.
The lone Pinson Valley runner will be Luis A Sanchez.
Each individual and team qualified for state championship competition last week in their respective AHSAA section meets.
The Hewitt-Trussville girls finished in second place at the Class 7A, Section 3 Meet last Thursday and the Husky boys secured a fourth-place finish at Veterans Park in Hoover. Springville traveled to Cullman last week for the Class 6A, Section 5 Meet and came back with a third-place finish in the girls race and a fourth-place finish in the boys run.
