From The Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE — “Don’t You Just Love Christmas” a five-day community event, is coming to the Trussville Entertainment District (TED) in December.
The Trussville Downtown Merchants Association, along with The Trussville Tribune, are coming together to bring the musical production to families in the Birmingham-metro, and to bring smiles to the faces of children this holiday season.
Steve Pennington, a helper of Santa Claus, has scheduled an appearance from the big man himself. Santa Claus and Friends will be taking photos with children and entertaining the masses from the stage in downtown. Digital copies of photos with Santa will be free to families.
“We certainly believe that this can be a destination event for the city of Trussville,” said Pennington.
Pennington said the coronavirus pandemic has made it challenging for Santa to make regular appearances. Social distancing and masks will be encouraged during the event. The Christmas event will be one of few this year.
“I have been doing musical events in Birmingham for the last 10 years and COVID has shut that down so this will allow Santa to return to the stage and keep his spirit alive,” Pennington said.
Santa Claus and Friends hope the event can become a tradition in the heart of Trussville.
“I think it will really be nice and I think it is something we can expand on in seasons to come,” Pennington added.
Each day, the event will start with Santa photos followed by a 45-minute show. After the show, Santa will be available for more photos.
Guitar Pros is donating PA equipment to make the event possible and Ferus Artisan Ales is encouraging other local businesses to take part in the event. For more information on how to help, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
