BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation following the shooting death of a 19-year-old man.
According to BPD, the incident occurred on Friday night in the 2900 block of Avenue Z shortly before 6 p.m. West Precinct officers were dispatched to the area in response to a ShotSpotter alert and discovered the victim — Marquise Nunn, 19, of Birmingham — lying unresponsive in the roadway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Nunn was transported to UAB Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Authorities say they have detained a person of interest who has been transported to the Birmingham Police Headquarters Building for questioning. Information regarding the person of interest has not been released.
