SPRINGVILLE — Springville Police Chief Wayne Walton is asking the City Council to approve the purchase of new vehicles.
During a council meeting on Monday, Nov. 23, Walton presented a resolution to sell four older police vehicles at a surplus auction. He also presented a request to purchase three new vehicles, a new Silverado pickup truck and two new Chevrolet Tahoes from the state bid list.
The chief said his department desperately needs new vehicles due to the number of miles and the amount of idle time the vehicles have on them.
Walton proposed using money from an insurance settlement and the funds from the sale of the surplus vehicles to offset the cost of the Silverado. The council agreed to consider that purchase at the next meeting on December 7 but asked to wait on the other purchases until the city’s new budget is presented and approved in January.
The police department recently applied new decals to all police vehicles and the council approved new uniforms for officers.
