BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department reports investigators are conducting an officer-involved shooting investigation following an incident that occurred at Emmanuel Temple Church in Birmingham.
According to police, officers from North Precinct responded to a burglary in progress call at the church, which is located at 433 1st Street North on Sunday, Nov. 29 around 2:42 p.m.
An officer arrived and encountered an armed suspect inside the church. There were no parishioners at the church during the incident according to BPD.
Police say the officer discharged his weapon, but the suspect was not injured. Officers were eventually able to deescalate the situation and subdue the suspect. The responding officer did sustained minor injuries and was evaluated on the scene.
Alabama Bureau of Investigation will take the lead in this investigation.
