MCCALLA — Authorities are investigating the cause and circumstances surrounding a wreck that claimed the life of a 67-year-old man.
According to a release from the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, the accident occurred in the early-morning hours of Friday, Nov. 27, as William Wayne Lynn drove his Jeep Wrangler into Coleman Lake in McCalla. The McCalla man was the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, which left the roadway in the 7700 block of Barbara Drive.
Local residents observed the accident and called 911.
Rescue personnel found the vehicle under water with Lynn still inside around 5:20 a.m. Lynn was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the coroner’s office, an autopsy was performed on Nov. 27, but the cause of death is pending additional laboratory studies.
