TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Police Department is investigating after a thief was caught on camera stealing a package from a home.
The incident happened on Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, at 12:05 p.m. In a video from the victim’s front porch, you can see the “porch pirate” grabbing an Amazon package and walking away.
The package contained nearly $400 worth of contents.
Trussville Police Chief Eric Rush said with an increased amount of packages being shipped during the holidays, there is an increased risk for crime.
“Shopping online is very common so when the package is delivered it is an easy target for thieves,” Rush said. “It’s important for neighbors to look out for each other and if you see something, say something.”
Rush said surveillance cameras can be helpful for investigators and can deter criminals.
To protect your packages, you can schedule deliveries for times you will be home or have them delivered to a friend’s house. You can also request to pick up your packages from the carrier facility. Check with your carrier for more information.
If you recognize the person in the video, you are asked to call Trussville Police.
