UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Nathan Chandler Wooten, of Hueytown. Birmingham police continue to investigate the alleged homicide.
BIRMINGHAM — Birmingham police are investigating a homicide following the shooting death of a man on Monday morning.
The Birmingham Police Department says the incident occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Monday, when officers responded to the 3500 block of Avenue P on a call of a person shot. Officers from West Precinct responded and found a male victim lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was transported UAB Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives are in the process of identifying witnesses and gathering evidence, according to BPD. A motive has not yet been established and there are no suspects in custody.
