Loraine Keith Umphrey, age 98, of Birmingham, departed this life on Nov. 29, 2020. She was born on Feb. 22, 1922.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lura Holmes Hailey and Reginald Pate Keith, stepfather Grover T. Hailey, sister Mary Keith, stepbrothers Grover Hailey, Jr., Harold Hailey, and Bobby Hailey, and her loving husband of 54 years Ollie Gilbert Umphrey.
Devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she is survived by her son, Steve Umphrey (Becky), daughters, Allison Umphrey McGuire, and Julie Umphrey Hurst (Gene); grandchildren, Brandon Burns (Allison), Dr. Mimi McGuire Miller (John Cox), Ross Umphrey (Hannah), Curran Umphrey, and Gene Hurst III; and four great grandchildren.
Loraine was a graduate of Woodlawn High School class of 1940. She was a faithful member of Wilson Chapel United Methodist Church. She and Ollie were married in the Chapel on Sept. 11, 1949.
Her life was centered around family and community. She was a founding member of the Roebuck Plateau Garden Club. She enjoyed coaching softball teams at South Roebuck Park and attending Banks High School football games.
She served as bookkeeper for the family business, Bel Aire Cleaners, and later started Bel Aire Interiors, enjoying many years as an interior decorator. The family received friends for visitation on Thursday, Dec. 3 at Jefferson Memorial Chapel, Trussville.
