TUSCALOOSA — For the third time in school history — and for the third time in four years — the Pinson Valley Indians are the Class 6A state champions.
Head coach Sam Shade captured the distinction in his first year on the sideline, capping off the title run on Friday night in Tuscaloosa with a 23-13 victory over Spanish Fort.
The Indians (12-2) climbed back from a slim second-half deficit with 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to escape with the blue map.
Pinson Valley quarterback Zack Pyron tossed a pair of touchdown passes: one to Ga’Quincy McKinstry (52 yards) and the other to Jaquel Fells Jr. (11 yards). Indians’ running back Michael Sharpe Jr. also ran in a 26-yard touchdown in the first quarter and the Pinson Valley defense pitched a second-half shutout on Friday night in Tuscaloosa.
Pinson Valley’s playoff march includes wins over Arab (45-0), Shades Valley (48-16), No. 1 Oxford (34-2), No. 2 Mountain Brook (27-10) and No. 7 Spanish Fort (23-13).
