WEST POINT, Ala. — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is investigating a death that happened as the result of a crash in the West Point Community.
Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey said that around 5:40 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020, a vehicle struck a powerline on Alabama 157 near County Road 1199. The impact caused the powerline to drop across the roadway and damaged the supporting guidewire for the utility pole.
A woman involved in the single-vehicle crash got out of the vehicle and was standing near the shoulder of the roadway when a second vehicle hit the powerline, breaking the utility pole and causing it to fall. The pole struck the woman.
Chloe Camille Williams, 20, of Vestavia Hills, was pronounced dead on the scene.
The second vehicle to hit the powerline did not wait on the scene for state troopers to arrive. Troopers are asking anyone with information to come You can contact the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency-Decatur Post at (256) 353-0631.
