BESSEMER — An inmate has been found dead at the William Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer.
The decedent, 44-year-old Tommy Lee Rutledge, was found unresponsive inside his private cell around 8 p.m. Monday. According to a release from the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Rutledge was pronounced dead shortly after 9 p.m. Monday.
An autopsy was performed on Tuesday, but the cause of death has not yet been determined. The coroner’s office says no evidence of foul play has been found.
Rutledge was serving a life sentence for a 1994 capital murder out of Jefferson County.
