JEFFERSON COUNTY — All JefCoEd students will be learning remotely following the Christmas break, according to a Tuesday announcement.
JefCoEd Superintendent Dr. Walter Gonsoulin said school will begin on Jan. 5 and consist of remote learning for all students through Jan. 9. Students enrolled in traditional learning may return to campus on Jan. 11, although that decision will be made on a school-by-school basis.
This decision comes as a result of the record-high COVID-19 numbers in Alabama.
“Our community has been seeing a lot of increase in cases, so we want to make sure that we keep everyone safe,” said Gonsoulin. “It’s going to be very important for us going forward that we all take responsibility as we did right before the Christmas break, making sure that we’re wearing our mask, not gathering in large groups, we’re socially distancing, washing our hands.”
