BIRMINGHAM — A 41-year-old Jasper man was killed Tuesday in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 59/20 in Birmingham.
The victim has been identified as Joseph Matthew Poe. According to a report from the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Poe crashed near the Ensley Avenue exit at 12:18 p.m. Tuesday.
Authorities say he was the driver and lone occupant of a Toyota 4Runner traveling southbound at the time of the accident. The vehicle left the roadway and struck the center concrete barrier, causing the vehicle to roll multiple times.
Poe was transported to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Birmingham Police Department is investigating the cause and circumstances surrounding the wreck.
