BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department is searching for a shooter after officers were involved in a shootout Tuesday afternoon.
The incident happened in the 900 block of 24th Street South, according to Carol Robinson with al.com.
Police were responding to shots fired into a vehicle in the Southtown Housing Community when someone opened fire from an SUV. Police shot back and the vehicle left the scene. No one on the scene was hurt. It is unclear if the shooter was hurt.
Jefferson County is assisting in the search for the suspect with its Star 1 helicopter.
