BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department is investigating the city’s latest homicide after a man was found shot multiple times inside a vehicle.
Kenneth Buford, 47, of Birmingham, was identified as the victim.
Police said the shooting happened on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021. They believe Buford was driving down Bankhead Highway around 12:22 p.m. when someone from another vehicle fired shots. Buford’s vehicle stalled in the 1400 block of Bankhead Highway and caused a traffic backup.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found Buford. He was taken to UAB Hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue, where he was pronounced dead.
Although detectives believe Buford was targeted, no one has been taken into custody and no motive has been established.
