BESSEMER — A 5-week-old boy is dead and his father has been charged with aggravated child abuse, according to al.com.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Kamari Whitt, who was injured last Wednesday in the 300 block of West Lake Circle in Bessemer. Whitt was pronounced dead at Children’s Hospital at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates says the baby sustained blunt force injuries during a reported assault, and the Bessemer Police Department is investigating the case as a homicide.
On Friday, the boy’s father, 27-year-old Quinton Artez Arnold, was charged and booked into the Jefferson County Jail. He was reportedly released Saturday on $250,000 bond.
This is Jefferson County’s 14th homicide of the year.
