CENTER POINT — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victims in a deadly shooting in Center Point.
Deputies got the call at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021, about an argument and shots being fired. When they got to the scene in the 300 block of 19th Court Northeast, they found a 17-year-old male dead.
Sgt. Joni Money said in a press release that the teen had a gunshot wound.
“According to witnesses, there was an altercation that occurred at a family gathering and an altercation broke out,” said Money. “During the altercation, a shot was fired, striking the victim.”
Camari DeVaughn Tyus, 17, of Birmingham, was identified as the teen killed. He was a student at Hoover High School. The school is providing counselors for students.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Detectives are investigating the shooting.
