TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club has named its Don Haisten Students and Teachers of the Month for February from Hewitt-Trussville High School (HTHS) and Clay-Chalkville High School (CCHS).
The student of the month for Hewitt-Trussville is sophomore Braden Deal. He is a member of the track team, golf team, and student council. Braden is also a member of the National Junior Honor Society, SCA senator, and Duke TIP. In his down time, Braden enjoys golf, disc golf, and football.
Braden has chosen Vanessa Romano as his Teacher of the Month. Romano is an English teacher at Hewitt-Trussville High School. Braden had this to say about Mrs. Romano: “Mrs. Romano has made school fun and enjoyable. She has also made me eager to learn.”
The student of the month for Clay-Chalkville is senior Julia Petty. She is a current member of broadcast, the honor society, where she serves as president, the science olympiad, ambassadors, softball, Mu Alpha Theta, and first priority. Petty will attend Northwest Florida State next year on a softball scholarship. During her free time, Petty enjoys hanging out with friends and family.
Julia has chosen Abby Jaillet as her Teacher of the Month. Jaillet teaches English and broadcast at Clay-Chalkville High School. Julia had this to say about Mrs. Jaillet: “I have had Mrs. Jaillet as a teacher ten times in the past three years. She is a teacher I know I can come to with anything and she has made broadcast a ‘home’ for all the students who join the program. She pushes me to never settle. She is always helping me find new ways to edit and new stories to write. Not only is she a great broadcast teacher, but she made my English class so much fun and made me look forward to learning. I have become a better student and a better person just by knowing Mrs. Jaillet.”
The program is sponsored by Jim ‘n Nick’s Bar-B-Q. Each honoree will receive a gift card from Jim ‘n Nick’s Bar-B-Q. The Club currently meets at 7 a.m. on the first through fourth Wednesday mornings of each month, mostly by Zoom.
