BIRMINGHAM — Whether it’s cheering on a favorite team or competing in a community league, we all know the thrill of victory in sports. But there is a different type of victory that many athletes must pursue… one with no cheering fans or trophies.
It’s victory over injury, and it is often the most important win that an athlete can achieve.
To shed light on this largely unknown side of sports medicine, Andrews Sports Medicine has announced the launch of its ‘Victory Over Injury’ podcast series. According to the announcement, the podcast series will explore the depths and the often overlooked and largely unknown side of sports medicine: injury – digging into recovery and the mindset it takes to achieve victory over injury.
“Sports fans often focus on injuries only when they occur: the concern when a favorite player suffers an on-field injury or the post-game news conference when a coach announces the crushing news of a season-ending injury,” said Dr. Michael K. Ryan, Andrews Sports Medicine orthopaedic surgeon and ‘Victory Over Injury’ host.
“But for the athlete, it’s the beginning of a new challenge to overcome the injury and return to competition, or even normal life,” he continued. “With ‘Victory Over Injury,’ we peel back the layers of injury, delivering in-depth conversations with some of the world’s most-respected sports medicine doctors, physical therapists, athletic trainers, sports psychologists, coaches, and players who all play key roles on the teams that focus on returning athletes to health.”
Dr. James Andrews, recognized by many as one of the most important individuals in sports, joined Dr. Ryan for an intimate interview, which was released Friday. The premiere episode provides listeners with insight, experience, and knowledge from Dr. Andrews – who reflects on his youth, career and mentors, discuss his patient-care philosophy, birth of arthroscopic surgery, and training 300-plus surgeons during a career that has spanned six decades.
In addition, Dr. Andrews shares his experience treating Drew Brees, Jack Nicklaus and Roger Clemens, and entertaining conversations with Coach Nick Saban. Listen to the first episode of ‘Victory Over Injury’ HERE.
‘Victory Over Injury’ will continue to peel back the layers around sports medicine and bring these conversations and insights to listeners with new episodes released throughout 2021.
