BIRMINGHAM — The National Weather Service in Birmingham issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of Alabama, ahead of an icy winter system.
The advisory covers Marion, Lamar and Winston Counties in west Alabama for Sunday night.
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Fayette, Marion, Lamar, Winston, Walker, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Sumter and Greene Counties from Monday into Tuesday.
For areas in the Winter Storm Watch, a mixture of freezing rain and sleet are likely. Total accumulations of 1/10 to 3/10 of an inch are possible in those areas.
The system is expected to bring freezing rain. Total ice accumulations of around 1/10 of an inch are predicted in other areas, although the forecast could change. More widespread rain and freezing rain is possible throughout the day on Monday and into Monday evening, including Jefferson and St. Clair Counties.
Impacts include possible power outages and tree damage. Travel in some areas could be impossible.
