UPDATE: The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Detraio Deshawn Whorton, 27, of Birmingham.
EARLIER:
BIRMINGHAM — Birmingham Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed on the east side of the city.
The victim was shot just after 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021, in the 8600 block of First Avenue North. Police said the victim was shot in the neck after exiting his vehicle and engaging in an altercation with another person.
“Whorton returned to his vehicle and collapsed in the driver seat,” police said in a press release. “The investigation indicates Whorton was an acquaintance of the suspect.”
No one else was hurt. No arrest has been announced and the motive has not been established.
